The City of Ukiah is approximately four square miles with a population of approximately 16,607 as of 2020.

The population of the greater Ukiah Valley is between 34,000 to 36,000 people. Many subdivisions have been developed on the outskirts of the city. The developments have been primarily to the east and north of Ukiah as the original city was developed west of the Russian River and against the western foothills.

Deerwood Park, Rogina Heights, El Dorado Estates and Vichy Springs are four large subdivisions located in the foothills east of Ukiah and the Russian River. There are more than 300 homes in these settlements.  All have Ukiah addresses, but are served by private water districts.

Education in Ukiah

The Ukiah Unified School District covers almost 500 square miles, including Ukiah, Redwood Valley, Calpella, Talmage, and Hopland.

The district’s many outstanding programs serve more than 6,700 students, and scholastic achievements of high school students in the district have consistently exceeded state and national averages.

UUSD offers education from preschool through adulthood. The district has six elementary schools located throughout the city and outlying valleys; two middle schools; and a comprehensive high school that serves approximately 1,600 ninth through twelfth graders.
